Deep RL-based Autonomous Navigation of Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs) in a complex GPS-denied Indoor Environment
Singh, Amit Kumar, Duba, Prasanth Kumar, Rajalakshmi, P.
The Autonomy of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in indoor environments poses significant challenges due to the lack of reliable GPS signals in enclosed spaces such as warehouses, factories, and indoor facilities. Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs) are preferred for navigating in these complex, GPS-denied scenarios because of their agility, low power consumption, and limited computational capabilities. In this paper, we propose a Reinforcement Learning based Deep-Proximal Policy Optimization (D-PPO) algorithm to enhance realtime navigation through improving the computation efficiency. The end-to-end network is trained in 3D realistic meta-environments created using the Unreal Engine. With these trained meta-weights, the MAV system underwent extensive experimental trials in real-world indoor environments. The results indicate that the proposed method reduces computational latency by 91\% during training period without significant degradation in performance. The algorithm was tested on a DJI Tello drone, yielding similar results.

IIT Hyderabad Researchers Use Machine Learning Algorithms To Study Supply Chain Network Of Biofuels
IIT Hyderabad Researchers are using computational methods to understand the factors and impediments in incorporating biofuels into the fuel sector in India. This work has been spurred by the increasing need to replace fossil fuels by bio-derived fuels, which, in turn, is driven by the dwindling fossil fuel reserves all over the world, and pollution issues associated with the use of fossil fuels. The model developed by the IIT Hyderabad team has shown that in the area of bioethanol integration into mainstream fuel use, the production cost is the highest (43 per cent) followed by import (25 per cent), transport (17 per cent), infrastructure (15 per cent) and inventory (0.43 per cent) costs. The model has also shown that feed availability to the tune of at least 40 per cent of the capacity is needed to meet the projected demands. A unique feature of this work is that the framework considers revenue generation not only as an outcome of sales of the biofuel but also in terms of carbon credits via greenhouse gas emission savings throughout the project lifecycle.
Top AI Initiatives By The Indian Institute Of Technology In 2020
Across the world, investing in AI innovations is on a steep rise. Artificial intelligence (AI) is indeed opening up the newer phases of technological advancements. Last year, riding the AI wave, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), across the country, came up with several AI initiatives -- from rolling out courses to launching R&Ds centres and Center of Excellences in various parts of the country. Although we have just stepped in the year 2020, IITians have already started to make headlines with their newer innovations for the year. In fact, Google has recently decided to start six artificial intelligence-based research projects in India by providing funds and computational resources, where two of the prominent IITs have agreed to participate -- IIT Delhi and IIT Madras.

IIT-Hyderabad set to help Telangana govt carry out research on AI
Hyderabad: The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) is going to collaborate with the Government of Telangana to carry out research in Artificial Intelligence. The Institute is partnering with the Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Department, for building, and identifying quality datasets, along with third parties such as Industry. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Prof B S Murty, director, IIT Hyderabad, and Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary to Government of Telangana, during an event held on January 2, 2020 as part of '2020: Declaring Telangana's Year of AI' initiative. They will also work on Education and Training to prepare and deliver content and curriculum on AI courses, which are to be delivered to college students along with industry participants. Prof Murty, director of IIT Hyderabad, said, "IIT Hyderabad is a pioneer in the field of Artificial Intelligence. IIT Hyderabad is the first institute in the country to launch a BTech program in AI. With a strong base of close to 25 faculty in the Department of AI, IIT Hyderabad is looking forward to such opportunities to come up with many more innovations and research achievements in the field."

Institutes gear up India for age of artificial intelligence
Institutes gear up India for age of artificial intelligence Shuriah Niazi 11 May 2019 The Indian workforce, academics and students are gearing up for the advent of the age of artificial intelligence (AI). According to the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), the country will require nearly 238,000 AI professionals in the next three years and the AI industry will be worth US$16 billion by 2025. AI is a field that has a comparatively long history but continues to actively grow and evolve. NASSCOM last month launched the programme titled'AI Foundation for Faculty Development' to hone faculty's skills in AI at Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore) in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. In addition, some top institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, IIT Hyderabad and Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru are training students and faculty in AI.
